OHS & Compliance Officer
Keep our sites, our cleaning crews and our chemicals inside the law, and keep our people safe while they work.
We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Occupational Health & Safety and Compliance Officer. The company runs sanitation, cleaning and construction alongside each other, which means one safety file never covers everything: a servicing crew on a client's premises, a cleaning team handling chemicals, and a building site each carry their own risks and their own paperwork.
This is the role that holds all of that together. You own the OHS systems, you are the person the SHE Representatives answer to, and you are the one who can say whether what we are doing on any given day stands up to the Act. You answer to the director directly.
What the job involves
- Run the company's occupational health and safety systems, and keep them current with the legislation.
- Carry out risk assessments across construction, cleaning, sanitation and chemical handling, and follow the controls through to the ground.
- Investigate incidents, write them up, and see that what comes out of them is actually put in place.
- Manage and support the SHE Representatives, and keep their training and appointments up to date.
- Keep the safety files, registers and compliance records in the state an inspector or a client's auditor would want to find them.
- Inspect sites and premises, and pull up what is not compliant before it becomes an incident.
- Advise the director and the site supervisors on what the law requires of us, early rather than late.
What we need from you
- A degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, Environmental Health or a related field.
- Three to five years of relevant experience.
- Strong working knowledge of OHS legislation and of what compliance with it takes.
- Experience in construction, cleaning, sanitation or chemical handling, or a combination of them.
- Experience carrying out risk assessments and investigating incidents.
- The ability to manage SHE Representatives and to run OHS systems.
- Valid driver's licence.

- SACPCMP registration.
- ISO 9001 or ISO 45001 experience.
